GYMMY SQUATZ YARRAVILLE

12/157 Hyde Street, Yarraville, VIC 3013

You’d think after being to a class and enjoying it that I’d be fine and not be nervous when it’s time to go to the next one. It probably comes from the fear of sucking, I don’t think any of us want to suck at anything. The reality of it, of anything really, is that you’re probably always going to suck at something the first time you do it. Unless of course you are Girl and can do pullups ever so effortlessly!

There's actually a motivational quote that I think of in these moments:

“Nothin’ to it but to do it.”

Monday’s class was Gymmy Power. It was a circuit session with 26 different exercises. Similar to Gymmy Cardio but with 4 more exercises and instead of 40 seconds on, 15 seconds off, it was 15 seconds on and 20 seconds off with 3x reps of each exercise.

Initially, it sounds great, more rest than exercise, yes! But I knew exactly what I’d be in for. A lady that I recognized from my Gymmy Cardio class (who is fitter than I am) had just finished the same workout as I was entering the gym. And she looked like she had just run a marathon, sweaty, red-faced and trying to catch her breath. She actually told me something I found quite interesting. She said she also goes to a gym and has a personal trainer (PT) but finds that she loves these classes and particularly loves training with Rhys (Gymmy Squatz Yarraville director/manager). She said that with the PT she can get away with not training as hard as she’s capable of. Whereas in these group classes, it's harder to slack off and she ends up pushing herself to the absolute max and getting an excellent workout.

Some of the exercises we did were: sprints, dips, bench press, hurdles, TRX Row, Pull-ups, cycling, sit ups with ball throws, kettle bell swing (which is the most awkward exercise ever) and another 16 more! I had no idea how to do most of these so thank goodness Rhys was there to show me.

At the end of the class, I actually realized that I enjoy working out with a group so much more than just going to the gym on my own. I also really enjoy being a regular gym goer.

Today’s class is Gymmy Fightfitness, wish me luck!
