Ditching my liquid eyeliner for the By Terry Stylo Blackstar Eyeshadow Stick
by Juliet Sulejmani
Yes it's true, the by Terry Stylo Blackstar Eyeshadow Stick in Purpulyn Gem, which is a deep aubergine colour, has officially replaced the daily use of my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in intense black.
I’ve been using the Stylo Blackstar for just over two weeks now, and I’ve only been applying it on my top lash line as an eyeliner and not yet as an eyeshadow or eye contour as is also possible.
Now, the Stila Liquid Eyeliner and the By Terry Stylo Blackstar are not the same product, but they do occupy the same spot on my eyelids. The main difference I’ve noticed between the two is the texture. The Stylo Blackstar is so smooth, so velvety that it glides on just like butter does when you spread it on a slice of hot toast. The look compared to when using the Stila is more natural and smokier instead of the sleek and sharp result of the Stila.
I also accidentally tested it’s budge-proofness one night when I accidentally fell asleep while binging on Aussie Beauty Vlogger; Bella Fiore’s Youtube video’s. When I woke up I noticed my Stylo liner was still perfectly in place, and I am not going to tell you that I when I washed my face I didn’t wash off the liner. I then just added some more mascara and went out for round two of gorgeous lined eyes.
I did catch myself thinking that this product, the by Stylo Blackstar, would be the perfect item to travel with, whether you’re flying to NYC to have coffee with Anna Wintour or are reapplying it at the gym after working out. Apart from a good mascara, it’s pretty much the only eye product you’ll need.
It even comes with an inbuilt sharpener which I just tested and can confirm works superbly to give you that pointy tip it had when you first took it out of its box. I will also say that I will probably not be doing this because I don’t want to waste any of this product and will not shave perfectly good eye product off that could be otherwise going onto my eyes!
This is actually the first time I’ve used by Terry products and had a little bit too much fun looking up the founder Terry de Gunzberg. You might have already heard this story but Terry is famous for creating the all-time best-selling and innovative YSL Touche Éclat. Terry worked at YSL Beaute as the creative director for 15 years and left just after Yves Saint Laurent retired.
Then in 1998, Terry went on to create her eponymous brand By Terry and in a Forbes article, Terry says that her “…philosophy is creativity, integrity, and quality. Those three are fundamental in all of my innovations.” For now, I only have one product on which to test out her philosophy, but I think she has ticked all three with the Stylo Blackstar as it has won a place in my makeup kit.
