Aesop Hand Cream: A Study in Use

I wanted to create original artworks of the objects I love, the ones I think are beautiful even in their most ordinary form.

For this first piece I chose a classic: Aesop’s Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm (A$45), the brand’s first ever skin product. Hydrating, softening, and one of their most recognisable tubes.

Part of the reason I picked it was practical: I was terrible at remembering to moisturise my hands. Drawing it weekly meant I’d remember to use it, and it gave me a way to watch how the tube changed shape as it was emptied.

I’ve always loved documenting things as they evolve: flowers wilting, bread rising, pages filling with notes.

The hand balm’s aluminium tube slowly creased, folded, and collapsed. Each week I drew its new posture, building a quiet record of use over time.

This print gathers all twelve weekly drawings on one page, like a botanical or specimen study, but of something contemporary and familiar.

It’s the first in what I hope will become a series of illustrated studies of objects that shape our everyday lives.
