Chloë Sevigny | Notes, Part 1

Chloë Sevigny, Notes, Part 1

I have started a small side project, tracing Chloë Sevigny. Fashion icon, actress, cultural archetype. I want to watch her films, read the profiles, and try to understand what she represents. She feels like someone who has always existed at the intersection of fashion and culture, which is where I want my work to live too.

I’m halfway through an article about her, “Chloë’s Scene” by Jay McInerney for The New Yorker, October 31, 1994.

I’m learning about how she started, and how she has stayed authentic to her own style and vision. I definitely need to watch Kids, her first film.

I have been looking at a lot of photos to understand her style. A few early notes:

  • She often shows her long legs, short shorts, mini skirts, or dresses with a split.

  • Hair is dialled in, either a perfect blow dry or natural waves.

  • Sunglasses, always strong shapes.

I want to invest in some fun frames.

I also want these shoes I keep seeing on her: ECCO, Biom C-Trail Leather Lace-Up Sneaker, $250.

While I was in bed sick, I happily fell down a TikTok rabbit hole searching her name.

More on this journey next week.
